6082 Aluminum Bar FAQ
What is the difference between 6082-T6 and 6082-T651?
T651 is stress-relieved by stretching (1-3% permanent deformation) after solution heat treatment and before artificial aging. This reduces residual stresses, providing better dimensional stability during machining. T6 is the standard solution-treated and aged condition without stress relief. For precision-machined parts with tight tolerances, T651 is recommended.
What sizes of 6082 aluminum bars are available?
Round bars: 6mm to 400mm diameter. Square bars: 10mm to 200mm. Hex bars: 10mm to 80mm across flats. Flat bars: 3-60mm thick, 20-300mm wide. Standard lengths are 3000mm and 6000mm. Custom cut-to-length is available. Contact us for custom sizes.
Is 6082 aluminum weldable?
Yes, 6082 has good weldability using MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) processes. Recommended filler metals are ER4043 (Al-Si5) or ER5356 (Al-Mg5). Note that welding reduces strength in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) by approximately 30-40%. Post-weld heat treatment can partially restore strength. See the welding parameters table above for detailed conditions.
What standards do your 6082 bars comply with?
Our 6082 aluminum bars comply with EN 755-2 (extruded bars), EN 754-2 (drawn bars), EN 573-3 (chemical composition), ASTM B221/B211, and JIS H4040. Material Test Certificates per EN 10204 3.1/3.2 are provided with every shipment.
What is the difference between 6082 and 6061 aluminum?
6082 has slightly higher silicon (0.7-1.3% vs 0.4-0.8%) and manganese (0.4-1.0% vs 0-0.15%) content, giving it marginally higher strength and better corrosion resistance. 6082 is more popular in Europe (designated HE30), while 6061 is more common in the US. Both are heat-treatable 6xxx series alloys with similar applications. See our 6061 aluminum bars for comparison.
What is the MOQ and lead time?
Minimum order quantity is 500kg (trial orders may be negotiable). Lead time is 7-15 days for stock items and 15-25 days for production orders. Rush orders can be accommodated—please contact us with your timeline.
Can you provide 6082 bars with custom machining?
Yes, we offer full CNC machining services including turning, milling, drilling, and tapping. We can deliver finished parts to your drawings with tolerances as tight as ±0.01mm. See the machining parameters table above and our CNC machining service for details.
What surface finishes are available?
Mill finish (standard), anodized (Type II decorative or Type III hard coat), polished (mirror or satin), brushed, and powder coated in RAL colors. Anodizing is available in clear, black, gold, bronze, blue, and red.
How are the bars packaged for shipping?
Bars are bundled with steel straps on wooden pallets or in wooden cases, with anti-corrosion paper and desiccant. Packaging is ISPM-15 compliant for international shipping. Custom packaging is available upon request.
Do you supply 6082 bars to my country?
We export to 60+ countries worldwide. Incoterms available: FOB (Shanghai/Ningbo), CIF, CFR, DAP, and EXW. We can assist with customs documentation and provide all necessary certificates. Contact us to discuss delivery to your location.
Can I get a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes, samples of standard sizes (typically 100-200mm length) can be provided for evaluation. Sample cost and freight are negotiable. Please contact us with your sample requirements.
