Bare aluminium wire is an uncoated, uninsulated aluminium conductor used primarily in electrical power transmission and distribution. Unlike insulated wire, bare aluminium wire is directly exposed to the environment and relies on the natural oxide film of aluminium for corrosion protection.
EC (electrical conductor) grade aluminium wire is made from high-purity aluminium alloys (1350, 1370, 6101) that maximise electrical conductivity while maintaining sufficient mechanical strength for overhead line applications.
Common Bare Aluminium Wire Conductor Types
-
AAC (All Aluminium Conductor): Made entirely of 1350-H19 aluminium wires. Highest conductivity, used for short-span overhead lines.
-
ACSR (Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced): Aluminium wires over a steel core. Combines conductivity with high tensile strength for long spans.
-
AAAC (All Aluminium Alloy Conductor): Made from 6101 or 6201 alloy. Better strength-to-weight ratio than AAC, no steel core.
-
ACAR (Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced): 1350 aluminium wires over 6101 alloy core wires. Balances conductivity and strength.
Application Of Bare Aluminium Wire
Bare aluminium wire is used across power, construction, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors. Below are the most common applications for HXM Aluminium EC-grade wire.

Overhead Power Transmission
1350-H19 hard-drawn bare aluminium wire is the standard conductor material for overhead transmission lines (AAC, ACSR core wires). High conductivity, lightweight and cost-effective for long-span applications.

Bare Aluminium Wire FAQ
What is bare aluminium wire used for?
Bare aluminium wire is primarily used for overhead power transmission lines (AAC, ACSR conductors), substation bus bars, grounding and bonding systems, cable manufacturing, and transformer windings. Its high conductivity, low weight and corrosion resistance make it the standard conductor material for electrical power applications.
What is the difference between 1350 and 1370 aluminium wire?
Both 1350 and 1370 are EC-grade aluminium wire with minimum 61% IACS conductivity. 1370 has tighter iron and silicon limits (Fe max 0.25% vs 0.40% in 1350), giving slightly higher strength while maintaining equivalent conductivity. 1370 is preferred for AAAC conductors requiring better mechanical performance.
What is 6101 aluminium wire used for?
6101 aluminium wire is a heat-treatable EC-grade alloy used for substation bus bars, rigid bus conductors and structural electrical applications where both conductivity (57% IACS min) and higher mechanical strength are required. It is commonly supplied in T6 or T61 temper.
Is bare aluminium wire corrosion-resistant?
Yes. Bare aluminium wire naturally forms a thin, protective oxide film when exposed to air, providing excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor and marine-adjacent environments. This self-passivating property eliminates the need for additional coating in most overhead line applications.
How is the conductivity of bare aluminium wire?
EC-grade bare aluminium wire (1350, 1370) has minimum conductivity of 61% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard). 6101 grade has minimum 57% IACS. While lower than copper (100% IACS), aluminium’s conductivity-to-weight ratio makes it more economical for overhead transmission where weight is the primary design constraint.
Can samples be provided before bulk order?
Yes. HXM Aluminum can provide small quantities of bare aluminium wire samples for testing and qualification. Please contact our sales team with your required grade, diameter and temper specifications.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
The minimum order quantity for bare aluminium wire is 500 kg per grade and diameter. For sample orders or trial quantities, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
